Dr Sherief Elsayed was very accommodating and listened to my concerns. He explained all of my options to me clearly. I visited some surgeons in the past that told me my only option was surgery. He solved my problem with only an injection. Very relieved to have found Dr Sherief.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What spine conditions does Dr. Sherief Elsayed treat?

Dr. Sherief treats a wide range of spine problems affecting the neck, mid-back, and lower back. This includes conditions like herniated discs, sciatica, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, and cervical myelopathy. He also manages spinal fractures, tumours, and degenerative changes that cause pain or nerve compression. Whether your symptoms are recent or long-standing, Dr. Sherief will assess your condition thoroughly and discuss the most appropriate treatment options for you.

How do I know if I need to see Dr. Sherief for my spine problem?

You should consider seeing a spine specialist if you have persistent back or neck pain that hasn’t improved with rest or physiotherapy, numbness or tingling in your arms or legs, weakness affecting your movement, or difficulty walking. Sudden loss of bladder or bowel control requires urgent medical attention. Dr. Sherief offers both non-operative and surgical treatments, so seeing a spine surgeon doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll need an operation. Many patients benefit from conservative management first.

Dr. Sherief, will I definitely need surgery for my spine problem?

Not at all. Most spine conditions respond well to non-surgical treatments like physiotherapy, medication, lifestyle changes, and spinal injections. Surgery is only recommended when conservative treatments haven’t provided adequate relief, or when there’s significant nerve compression affecting your quality of life. Dr. Sherief believes in a patient-centred approach and will always explore non-operative options first unless your condition requires urgent surgical intervention.

What should I bring to my first appointment with Dr. Sherief?

Please bring any recent scans you’ve had, such as MRI or CT images, along with the written reports. A list of your current medications and any previous treatments you’ve tried is also helpful. If you have referral letters from your GP or other specialists, bring those too. It’s useful to write down your main symptoms and any questions you’d like to ask, so you don’t forget anything during the consultation.

Dr. Sherief, how long does it take to recover from spine surgery?

Recovery time varies depending on the type of procedure and your individual circumstances. Minimally invasive operations often allow patients to return home the same day or next day, with gradual return to normal activities over several weeks. More complex surgeries may require a longer hospital stay and several months of recovery. Dr. Sherief will give you a realistic timeline based on your specific operation and will support you throughout your recovery with clear guidance on what to expect at each stage.
