Disc prolapse, also called a herniated disc, occurs when the intervertebral disc is injured, causing the internal content (the nucleus pulposus) to rupture out and compress a nerve(s). 80 to 90% of disc prolapses resolve on their own or with conservative approaches.
Low back pain is most often ‘simple’ low back pain. Other causes may include poor posture, a sedentary lifestyle, inadequate muscle function, ruptured disc, or arthritis. Dr. Sherief is able to advise on the best treatment (or reassurance) following a thorough assessment.
Spinal stenosis is the narrowing of the space within the spinal canal, leaving less room for the nerves.
